The Car
You will have your lessons in the Toyota Corrola with automatic transmission. The car is equipped with dual break control to allow your instructor to help you manipulate the break pedal and intervene in case you lose control at junctions or roundabouts (this happens quite frequently if you are an absolute beginner).

Licence Types
In Ontario, there are 12 different licence classes. Each one qualifies you to drive a different type of vehicle. The class of licence you have must match the type of vehicle you are driving. See the Quick Check Chart below to see what class of licence you need to drive different vehicles. A driver may hold a licence in more than one class.

Theory Test
You need to pass a Theory Test before the Practical Driving Test. You will be given a either a computer-based test or a paper-based test containing 40 multiple choice questions. You will have 20 questions from traffic signs and other 20 questions from rules and traffic regulations. In order to pass you must get at least 32 correct out of 40. Included in the test is driver's attitude, traffic signs and regulations, effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on driver's behavior, the safety and environmental aspects of vehicles. Learning to drive is just as much about knowing how to be safe on the roads as it is about handling the car. Therefore much of the Theory Test concentrates on 'reading the road' so that learners understand how to avoid accidents.
